Beers sold as foreign and brewed in Britain

38 of the 150 beers on this site carry branding from another country and are brewed in the United Kingdom. Brewing a foreign brand under licence in Britain is legal and has been normal since the 1970s. What is worth knowing is that the liquid is often not the same beer: 13 of these are weaker here than the version sold at home, and five of them sit at exactly 3.4%, a tenth of a percent under the duty threshold.

A beer appears here when the record says its UK supply is brewed in the UK and the branding points at a country outside the United Kingdom. Beers with a split or unestablished supply are not on this list, even where the branding is foreign. Supermarket own-label world lagers are gathered on their own page, because for most of them the producer is not published anywhere.

If you want a beer that is what it says it is, here is what to buy instead. Or pick the beer you were going to buy and see its alternatives, beer by beer.
